Kamala Harris
Kamala Devi Harris is an American politician from the United States. Born on the 20th of October 1964, she was the 49th Vice President of the United States. She is both the first female vice-president and the highest-ranking female official of the United America. Being a part of the Democratic Party, she was the attorney general of California in 2011-2017 and a United States senator representing California from 2017 to 2021. Harris was born in Oakland and attended Howard University, University of California, Hastings College of the Law. Harris began her career at the Alameda County District Attorney's Office. Then she was recruited to join the San Francisco District Attorney's Office. In 2003 she was elected district attorney of San Francisco. In 2010 she was elected Attorney General of California and was re-elected in 2014. Harris was the United States junior senator from California, from 2017 to 2021. Harris defeated Loretta Sanchez to become the 2nd African American woman senator and the first South Asian American ever to be elected to the United States Senate. In her time as a senator, she pushed for healthcare reform, federal descheduling of cannabis, a path for immigrants who are not legal citizens as well as the DREAM Act and a ban on assault weapons. She also backed progressive tax reform. She is best known for her sharp questions to Trump administration officials during Senate hearings.
